Recently we asked our Tour of Light Artistic Director, Robert Kiwanuka, to share his thoughts and reflections on the tour:
My experience with the 2012 Tour of Light was really inspirational and motivational because of the outpouring of love we received in all parts of America that we visited.
We became connected to all generations of people who I hope remain lifelong friends of Children of Uganda. I personally saw how the power, passion and love in our performances impacted audiences and helped them understand the vital work we are doing to support Ugandan children. As a beneficiary of Children of Uganda, I am excited to lead the 2014 Tour of Light to the U.S. again because I know it will connect more people to our organization who can help empower, educate and support more vulnerable children and their poor mothers, grandmothers and guardians.READ MORE
Greetings! I am thrilled to say that I have arrived safely in Uganda. What a trip it was – more than 24 hours! I was received at the airport by our Program Director, Margaret Kasekende, and driver/longtime COU friend Richard Mulwana. This past weekend, I was joined by COU Board members Steve Alpern and his wife Linda, Sonni Aribiah, Pete Carter, Jamie Natelson, and a small group of volunteers who are all visiting Uganda.
While here, we will be holding a series of meetings and conducting site visits to Philip’s House, a number of our partner primary and secondary schools, as well as the villages and homes of our Family Empowerment participants. A few of our Board members will have an opportunity to meet their sponsored child for the first time – which is certain to be an incredible experience for all.
We help you give a hand UP to Ugandan children and women in need + share the joy.
Each child who is educated, fed and safe is a strong foundation for peace.
Each self-supporting woman makes a community thrive. Each beat of music carries the joy of a nation.
