We will arrive on August 26th and depart on September 11th (the departure date is flexible if travelers wish to shorten or extend their stay). Our journey begins in Uganda’s capital of Kampala – which has become a thriving city over the last decade thanks to the booming technology industry. Here, we’ll visit Children of Uganda’s central headquarters to meet and greet with our wonderful Ugandan team.
We will then take off for Kyotera District for a week of activities with some of our beloved kids. Along the way – we will cross the equator where there will be opportunities for tourist photos and souvenir shopping.
Once we arrive in Kyotera – we will make our way to Sabina Primary Boarding School – our longest standing partnership school. Our staff is planning a week-long youth camp where visitors will be able to participate in games and workshops with the kids during the day and more one-on-one interaction in the evening. We will also visit some of the guardians who participate in our income generating activities so you can see first-hand the skills they’ve learned and independence they’ve gained as a result of your support.
We will wrap the week with an informal dance performance by the kids and a small handicraft fair hosted by a few women in our Family Empowerment Program.
The following week is optional and open for excursions. Uganda boasts diverse landscapes including misty jungles and snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains. The immense Lake Victoria is one of the most stunning attractions in the country. There is an abundance of wildlife including chimpanzees, rare birds and of course gorillas. The most popular location for gorilla trekking is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Murchison Falls National Park is located in the northwest part of Uganda and is known for its waterfalls and wildlife. Queen Elizabeth Park – which is in southwestern Uganda also boasts incredible wildlife including tree climbing lions.
The captivating wildlife photographs in the slider above were taken by Wild Eye Safari guide Andrew Danckwerts – and should you decide to embark on a jungle trek of your own, you’ll also have the incredible opportunity to see the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas in the wild.
Don’t delay – spots are filling up quickly! We would love to have you come to this beautiful nation whose people are some of the most generous and kindest in the world. This will truly be a trip of a lifetime.
