There are some days in my work where I realize how utterly blessed beyond measure I am. December 10th was one such day!
A few weeks ago, I was introduced to all of our 2022 recruits (new students available for sponsorship) and I also met a few of their guardians, as well. The young mother of 6 year-old Benitah named Sarah stole my heart and I asked if we could sit and talk.
She told me that finding Children of Uganda was truly a miracle. Sarah’s husband had abandoned the family when she was pregnant with her youngest child – who is now 4 years old. Since that time, Sarah has been running a small vegetable stall where she struggles to earn the capital needed to sustain her family.
I knew we had to get into action. On December 10th, our wonderful social worker Winnie Nakalembe and I moved Sarah and her children into their new home. We also delivered a bunk bed for the kids, a bed just for Sarah, new mattresses and bedding.

Of course, there was great excitement from everyone – most of all from Sarah. She is such a hard working mother and she was overcome with joy and relief. Having a proper home and knowing that Children of Uganda is there for support is the greatest gift ever.
Now, it is our hope to find a FASTrack partner for Sarah to continue empowering her and the family in the New Year. Click below to learn how you can invest in a family like this one or become a child sponsor today:
