Jane Nanfuka graced stages across America on the Tour of Light and just recently she owned the graduation stage in Uganda – earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Statistics from Kyambogo University! And, it was a dream come true to share this moment with her longtime sponsor, Nathan Webb.
Nathan and Alison Webb have sponsored Jane for over 8 years. They met for the first time in person on the 2012 Tour of Light (the family drove over 9 hours to meet her at a performance). Since then, Jane has grown incredibly close to her sponsors through letters and pictures.
And so, Nathan was determined to be there for Jane on one of the biggest days of her life. After the graduation celebrations, they had an opportunity to tour Uganda together. One of the most touching experiences for Nathan was visiting Kiwanga – the children’s home where Jane grew up under the care of our late Sister Rose Muyinza. Nathan shared that:
“[The home] is now only for the mentally and physically disabled, but Jane and others that grew up there with her still help out. It was a striking example of how helping just one person like Jane can enable them to help so many others and do much more good than I could alone. I’m very proud not only of Jane’s accomplishments in college, but of the wonderful young woman she’s grown into.”
Jane is currently applying for jobs with various organizations including work in the non-profit sector. She has already had her first interview and is awaiting feedback. We wish her the best of luck, but are more than confident that she will succeed!
“The truth is you paved this beautiful way for me and I can never stop thanking you so much for loving me. I love you so much.”
-Your Daughter, Jane (from a recent letter to her sponsors)
