West Africa is facing the worst food crisis in over a decade with 27 million people going hungry. “This number could rise to 38 million this June — a new historic level and already an increase by more than a third over last year — unless urgent action is taken,” alerts Oxfam and 10 other international organizations participating in a April 2022 joint press release. The situation is deadly and only getting worse.
In Uganda, the majority of families are down to one small, watery bowl of porridge a day and many children are going to bed with empty bellies.
This thin porridge is all that many families in Uganda are able to afford right now.
Food, essential commodity and fuel prices are surging in Uganda due to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 lockdowns, the war in Ukraine, as well as droughts affecting many regions of the country.
Our families and team members on the ground report that maize and beans are scarce and that the cost of certain items is up over 400%!
In response, Children of Uganda’s Board of Directors and two major donors are pledging to match all donations dollar-for-dollar up to $7,500 ($14,000 will feed 202 vulnerable families for one full month). That means, for a limited time, your gift of $30 will really be worth $60 to help eliminate hunger.
Food insecurity and rising inflation is now threatening millions of lives in Uganda – including our very own students and their vulnerable families.
Will you join us in making twice the impact today?
