For Sharif, it means leaving his comfortable bed at boarding school for the cold, hard ground at home.
For his mother Sarah, it means another hungry mouth to feed despite having little or no food to eat.
And for everyone in the home, it means sharing whatever small amount they have to make it through the day.
Tragically, Sarah’s husband died many years ago and she has been struggling every day since to care for her children and grandchildren.
Sarah poorly manages several health conditions (including hypertension and diabetes) and one of her grandchildren, Jovan, has cerebral palsy. He is unable to walk or talk and relies on her for everything.
Sharif and his family are always so grateful for any and all support they receive. While at school, Sharif shared with our staff, “I am so happy to get breakfast and delicious meals“. And Sarah, after receiving food relief once exclaimed:
Sharif’s education is sponsored through Children of Uganda and we have provided the family with emergency food relief, soap and other essential supplies throughout the pandemic; however, the family is in a truly desperate situation right now. Their livelihood is in a very sad state and without immediate intervention, we fear for their lives.
